I Am Officially a Soccer Mom!

on the last day of january, my little man started his first ever soccer season! it was so exciting to see him enthusiastically chasing after his own little red ball. hope he enjoys this game as much as we enjoy watching him play.
when b and i were still dating, we used to drive by a church near his apartment on the weekends and see little people playing soccer games. we always thought it was the cutest thing ever and wanted our kids to play soccer, too. so when each of them turned 3, i signed them up for indoor soccer lessons. it turned out to be a disaster. i had to use all kinds of rewards systems to coax them into completing the sessions. i guess they were too young back then.

at the beginning of the school year this year, we asked them again whether they were interested in joining a soccer team. Z girl flatly refused while Z boy said yes until the day i tried to register. then he changed his mind. ugh! when spring registrations rolled around, i asked again whether he was interested. this time he said no first then changed his mind to an affirmative. all of a sudden, he became extremely excited about the game. he couldn't wait for the season to start. everytime the weather warmed up a bit, he asked if soccer was starting that day. (cuz i told him that soccer would start when the weather warmed up!)

of course, on the first day of practice, it was freezing cold and the wind was howling, but the kids had so much fun. even Z girl asked to be in the practice. the coach was nice enough to include her. i already had a cold and standing outside for an hour with the wind whipping at my head just made my symptoms even worse, leading up to the two days of bed rest. ah, the joys of motherhood!

on another note, Z boy dropped out of his gymnastics team. it had become an increasing battle to get him to his practices. we tried to hold out as long as possible but after soccer started, he became adamant about stopping the training, thus the end of another chapter of his childhood.
